Well, here we go. The topic of which device is best between the Garmin Forerunner 245 and the COROS Pace 2
For the runner that wants to get the best bang for their buck, I would have to say hands down the COROS Pace 2 wins - not by a small amount but by a huge amount.
Things in Common: COROS Pace 2 & Garmin Forerunner 245
- Display Size: Both devices have the 30.4mm (1.2" display)
- Similar Common Activities: Run, Run Indoors, Track Run, Bike, Pool Swim
- Fitness Stats: Steps, Heart Rate, Sleep Tracking, VO2 Max
- Advanced Training Metrics: Training Load, Race Predictor, Recovery Time
- Basic Smartwatch Features: Calendar, Messages/Notifications
The COROS Pace 2 is lighter than the Forerunner 245, has built in barometer & gyroscope, the battery is approx 20 days in smartwatch mode as opposed to the 7 days on the 245. The other part that the Pace 2 has over the Forerunner 245 is swimming, the COROS fully supports Open Water swimming and multi-sport activities as well, whereas you have to upgrade to the Garmin Forerunner 745 to get that ability (and still with a 7 day battery in smartwatch mode...)
Size wise, they both have a 30.4mm display and gorilla glass for their screens. Garmin's screen is a MIP (memory in pixel) while the COROS Pace 2 has a LCD display. Both are easy to read in the sunlight.
Weight wise, the COROS Pace 2 is down to 35 grams, while the Forerunner 245 is 38.5 grams - so both are very lightweight there.
COROS Pace 2 vs Garmin Forerunner 245 - Battery Life
The Garmin 245 has a battery that will last "up-to" 7 days, and that's in smartwatch mode. If you are someone who goes for a couple of runs a week, you will find that 7 days getting less and less depending on how long you have GPS on.
The COROS Pace 2 on the other had, the battery is a beast when it comes to smaller devices. With roughly 20 days in smartwatch, and 30 odd hours in full GPS - you will find yourself having to charge the PACE 2 less than the Forerunner. The Pace 2 also supports UltraMax mode for GPS, which will give you tracking for approx. 60 hours (GPS will turn on every 2 minutes for 30 seconds) and then maths calculates the distance travelled using the on-board sensors. This mode is ideal for those who like hitting the trails for those extended missions.
COROS Pace 2 vs Garmin Forerunner 245 - Price Point
The COROS Pace 2 is priced at $369 and the non music Forerunner 245 is priced normally at $549
Ok, so if you are a mad keen Garmin fan, or after those crazy sales some stores have, you might be tempted to get a Forerunner 245 - however if you want a watch that will do almost as much as the Forerunner 745 - then sorry the COROS Pace 2 is the way to go.
Activities that the PACE 2 supports over the Forerunner 245
- Open water Swimming
So that makes the COROS Pace 2 a watch more than suitable for triathlons and recording those ocean swims - for a retail price point of $369 it really is a no brainer.
